Scholarships, Assistantships & Awards

Scholarships can help with your college fees! Supporting successful students is very important to us, and we offer a number of scholarships, assistantships and awards. You have many options when it comes to finding financial aid to help you attend IUPUI. There are many opportunities for both Undergraduates & Graduate students to reduce the cost of college.

*Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP) The Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP) significantly reduces out-of-state tuition—to 150% of in-state tuition—for students from participating states. The program automatically covers all entering and current out-of-state students.

*Office of Student Scholarships   You should also check to see if you are eligible to receive federal financial aid, grants, loads, or work-study! The website of the IUPUI Office of Student Financial Services is a very good place to find information! 

*ECE Department ScholarshipThe ECE Department offers a number of partial tuition scholarships. The department offers approximately 50+ partial tuition scholarships to both new and current students who are the most highly qualified, exceptional full-time graduate students with expressed research/thesis interest.  Applicants are automatically considered at the time of admission, no additional application is required.   Continuing students must reapply each semester.

*Faculty Sponsored Research Assistantship (SAA): Research assistantships are extended each semester and are funded by individual faculty members to support students who work on the faculty members’ research projects.  Often, but not necessarily always, the work is related to the student’s thesis work. Renewal of research assistantships is based on satisfactory research performance and availability of funds.  You are encouraged to contact our faculty directly to inquire on any available openings within their research group.  The availability of research funding and assistantships varies each year.  We extend approximately 45+ assistantships per year.   ECE Faculty Research:  https://et.iupui.edu/departments/ece/research/

Assistantships include:  monthly stipend (may be a 5, 10 or 12 month appointment), full tuition support, and health insurance.  You are expected to work 20 hrs per week during the assistantship.

ECE Faculty Research

Assistantships include:  monthly stipend (may be a 5, 10 or 12 month appointment), full tuition support, and health insurance.  You are expected to work 20 hrs per week during the assistantship.

The Jafari Graduate Assistantship is offered on a yearly basis to one highly motivated student from Iran that is starting a MSECE Degree or PhD  in Computer Engineering.

Applicants must demonstrate interest and skills in the areas of Data Analytics, Knowledge Discovery, Machine Learning or Intelligent Agents.

The selection criteria is primarily based on academic excellence and financial need.

Recipient of the fellowship must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale during the term of the assistantship and will be expected to conduct research in the IUPUI Cyberlab.  The Cyberlab offers a unique environment for creative innovation, professional development and mentoring in entrepreneurialship

The program automatically covers all entering and current out-of-state students.  Participating MSEP States:  Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio and Wisconsin.

TA positions are typically limited to Ph.D. students only. Teaching Assistantship will assist ECE faculty members with the teaching mission of the department. Responsibilities vary depending on the faculty and the course, including leading discussion sections and labs, grading assignments and exams, holding office hours. There is no need to apply for a teaching assistantship. The department makes the decision based on Department needs and student qualification. For teaching assistantship consideration, you must submit your graduate admission application.

University Fellowships are open to all new MSECE or PhD students not currently or previously enrolled at IUPUI. To be eligible for the University Fellowship, candidates must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 or equivalent.  This is an extremely competitive fellowship, only those who are the most qualified are nominated. The ECE Department submits nominees from the Fall applicants to send to the campus for Fellowship consideration.  There is no separate application required in order to be considered for the nomination for the University Fellowship; all applications that are fully complete by January 30th will be automatically considered.  

Fellowship award includes: 10 or 12-month stipend, full tuition support, and health insurance.  This only awarded in the fall semester (those applying for Spring admission are not eligible).

*Graduate School: The Fellowship Committee has set aside funds for Travel Fellowships to assist full-time graduate students in attending a meeting or conference relevant to their degree program to present their research. *Graduate and Professional Education Grants (GPEG) provides financial support for students traveling to programs or events that are vital to their studies. Funds can be used for domestic and international travel. Application required.

*International Student Grant program: The International Student Grant program provides scholarships to current international undergraduate and graduate degree-seeking students who have a strong academic record and who are experiencing severe financial hardship. Award amounts vary. The student must hold F-1 or J-1 student visa status, be assessed tuition at the out-of-state rate, and have completed at least two semesters of full-time coursework at IUPUI at the time the award begins. https://international.iupui.edu/indianapolis/aid-current-students/oia-loan.html
