Laptop Requirement

Starting in the fall of 2012, all students in the Computer Graphics Technology Program are required to have a qualified laptop.

1. Why is a laptop required?

  • A laptop allows students to stay connected with their coursework and personal activities regardless of their location. Being actively engaged in course material is important for success in the CGT program and a laptop allows students that connection 24/7.

3. What are the benefits of the laptop program?

  • Students can access the same technology as their instructors, allowing them to actively participate in course material and activities.
  • Support is readily available through UITS and the Living Lab.
  • Mobile computing is available virtually everywhere. Students can participate in academic, administrative, or personal activities no matter their location.

4. What are the costs involved?

  • Students can expect to pay anywhere from $600 and up for a qualified laptop.

5. Are loaner systems available if my laptop is under repair?

  • Loaner laptops are currently not offered; however open labs are available, if needed.

6. How do I choose the laptop that is right for me?

  • There are all kinds of laptops to choose from but screen size, weight, and portability are all things to consider when looking at the minimum requirements.

7. What if I already own a laptop?

  • If it meets the minimum requirements you can use it.

8. How can I get service or technical support?

  • For service, check with your manufacturer.
  • For support, UITS is available to help troubleshoot any problems.
