The use of any transfer credit to fulfill a degree requirement must be approved by the Faculty in the ECE department. The ECE department does not accept transfer credit for engineering required or elective courses at the 30000-level or higher, with the exception of some Purdue University courses. The ECE department will not accept transfer credit for courses that do not require proctored, in-person exams. The ECE department will not accept transfer credit for courses taken at other instutions if the transfer course conflicts with an IUPUI course.
Transfer credit used to meet any degree requirements must have equivalent course content. For example: physics may not be used for math; chemistry may not be used for ENGR 12500; etc.
NOTE: If transfer credit is used for a pre- or co-requisite course, this must be approved using the ECE Transfer Credit Approval form BEFORE that student may take the dependent course. For example, a student using transfer credit for ECE 20100 (pre-requisite course) may not enroll in ECE 20200 (dependent course) until the use of transfer credit is approved.
ECE 49600 is an independent projects course and is not to be used to make up lab and course credit deficiencies for transfer students. There will be special ECE 49500 sections as needed for this purpose.
Courses transferred from Purdue University must have an earned grade of C- or higher to be used on the ECE Department’s BSE, BSEE or BSCmpE plan of study.
For Current IUPUI Students
For current electrical or computer engineering students, whether in the ECE Department, NSAAC, or University College, any substitution on the plan of study must be approved in advance, whether the course is taken at IUPUI or is transferred from another university. The student must submit the Student Petition for Course Substitution with supporting documents to obtain this approval.
Use of transfer credit by students in dual degree or consortium programs must be approved as described above unless there is a program-specific course equivalency table approved by the ECE chair. All course equivalency tables are subject to periodic review and updates to reflect possible changes in course content and program requirements.
For Transfer Students
Requests for faculty approval of the use of transfer credit must be submitted to the ECE academic advisor or course coordinator, using an ECE Transfer Credit Approval form (not a Course Directive form). The course coordinator and department chair will review and either approve or deny the request.
The NSAAC Advisor prepares the Petition for Course Directive (Substitution) form, attaches the ECE Transfer Credit Approval and supporting documentation, and routes to the ECE department.
