Founded in 1963, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is currently the world's largest professional technology association. By 2018, there are more than 420,000 IEEE members in more than 160 countries around the world. As one of the newly established societies of the IEEE, the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society (IEEE ITSS) was formally established in 2005. At present, there are about 1,900 members worldwide. The main objective of the IEEE ITSS is to advance the theoretical, experimental, and operational aspects of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies as applied to intelligent transportation systems.
Li received the B. E. degree in Automation from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 2000, the M. S. degree in Control Theory and Control Engineering from the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China, in 2003, and the Ph. D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, in 2008. Since August 2008, he has been with Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) where he is currently Associate Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Li’s current research focuses on modeling, analysis, control, and optimization of complex systems; discrete-event dynamic systems; intelligent transportation systems; intelligent vehicles; active safety systems; and human factors. He received the Remarkable Paper Award at ACM ICUIMC in 2011, Indiana University Trustees Teaching Award in 2012, Outstanding Editorial Service Award for IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems in 2012, IUPUI Prestigious External Awards Recognition in 2013, and IEEE IV 2018 Best Poster Paper Award (Second Prize). Li is currently serving as associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Vehicles, IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica, and Journal of Intelligent and Connected Vehicles. He has also served in the organizing committee for a number of premier international conferences.
