Christe was selected by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and was approved by the ABET Board of Delegates to represent her entire discipline. Her responsibilities include serving as a training mentor for ETAC program evaluator candidates and as team chair during program accreditation visits.
“Barbara’s work with ABET’s Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission is an example of how our faculty contribute to ensuring the quality of engineering technology programs beyond the IUPUI campus," said David J. Russomanno, dean of the School of Engineering and Technology. “We’re looking forward to her contributions in the future as she takes this next step as a commissioner.”
Christe trained as an ETAC of ABET program evaluator in 2008, and has been deeply involved in the national accreditation activities committees that oversee both engineering and engineering technology programs in the realm of biomedical engineering. In 2012, she became a training mentor for ETAC evaluator candidates, fostering a deeper understanding of the accreditation process.
After 12 years of teaching engineering technology at the Community College of Rhode Island, Christe joined IUPUI in 1998. Prior to entering the educational field, she was a clinical engineer at University of Connecticut's Health Center.
Christe received her doctorate of philosophy in higher education from the University of Phoenix. She earned her bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Marquette University, and a master’s degree in clinical engineering from Rensselaer at Hartford. Her areas of research interest include student success factors as well as radio frequency identification in the clinical setting.
