00:04
are you ready for a music therapy
00:07
program designed for the 21st century
00:08
and IUPUI we believe access to music
00:12
matters and that technology is a vital
00:15
part of making music accessible and
00:16
meaningful across the lifespan I'm
00:20
really excited about the depth of the
00:22
program that we have built here social
00:24
justice tenants are built into every
00:26
aspect of the course and technology sits
00:28
at the center we have some traditional
00:31
markers of other music therapy programs
00:33
all of our students take music theory
00:35
they take aural skills they study music
00:37
history we added music technology as a
00:40
core instrument so our students spend a
00:44
credit hour studying music technology
00:47
IUPUI's music therapy programs combine
00:50
studies and general music science
00:52
creativity clinical foundations and
00:54
technology to create professionals will
00:57
be uniquely qualified to help
00:58
individuals and that dynamic change in
01:00
their lives it's a career advancement
01:04
opportunity it's where it's the natural
01:06
progression of where I would be going
01:07
all of these people are just great
01:09
professors great mentors to help each
01:12
and every up-and-coming music therapist
01:14
it's very technology oriented which I
01:17
thought was really nice just a lot of
01:19
music therapists are like falling behind
01:20
with technology right now so it's good
01:22
to learn about it now rather than later
01:24
when it's too late I really love it so
01:26
far like we've been doing the drum
01:28
circles or when we were working with the
01:30
shakers and we got to do these musical
01:32
experiences where it just brought out
01:33
everything that like a musician should
01:36
be with undergraduate and graduate
01:39
programs situated within a major
01:41
research institution and access to a
01:44
thriving community of board-certified
01:46
music therapists our students
01:48
participate in community engaged field
01:50
placements and research equipping them
01:53
as future leaders in music therapy
01:56
and I'm excited that we're creating
01:57
music therapists who are going to be
02:00
able to innovate they're going to be
02:01
able to create entirely new pathways for
02:04
music therapy and they're going to be
02:07
able to function in a world that is
02:09
constantly changing they're going to be
02:11
successful
02:12
IUPUI is music therapy students learn
02:15
the clinical technological and musical
02:18
skills needed for a successful career in
02:20
a growing profession our music therapy
02:22
graduates are uniquely qualified to help
02:24
make dynamic change in the lives of
02:27
individuals
02:27
we're music therapists in the 21st
02:30
century and we need to be able to meet
02:31
our session participants where they are
02:33
in terms of the technology that they're
02:35
seeing out in the world everyday and it
02:37
creates new exciting opportunities for
02:39
people to access music that might not
02:41
otherwise be able to we are creating
02:43
music therapists who are going to come
02:45
out with a skill set that nobody else
02:48
has and for me that's exciting because
02:50
we are creating the music therapists
02:52
that will one day turn around and train
02:54
the next generation of music therapists
02:57

Music Therapy

Welcome to the Music Therapy program at IUPUI! We recognize the important roles music technology and clinical musical skills play in the clinical practice of music therapy, we believe that technology allows music therapists to connect with and empower clients in ways that seemed impossible only a few years ago, and we expect the relationship with technology to grow in the future.

We have opportunities for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree in a different field, but who wish to earn their music therapy credential!
