What is Purdue University Computer Engineering?

Purdue University Computer engineering (CmpE) is an evolutionary degree program that has emerged from electrical engineering and computer science that deals with many aspects of computer systems. This degree program combines analytical skills, hardware expertise, and software knowledge. Computer engineers may design computer systems, networks, operating systems, or software.

Learn to combine analytical skills, hardware expertise, and software knowledge to design the computer systems, software, networks, and operating systems that are changing the world as we know it. 

What is Purdue University Electrical Engineering?

Purdue University Electrical Engineering (EE) is much more than just building electrical circuits. Electrical engineers are responsible for integrating electronic devices, communication systems, and electric power into all aspects of our daily lives. The EE program is designed to prepare students to work in manufacturing, energy systems, robotics, circuits, communications, information processing and biomedical engineering. 

Electrical engineering deals with electricity, at every level from electromagnetic and the tiniest computer circuitry, to large-scale electronic systems, learn to power the things that power life, every day. With an Electrical Engineering degree from IUPUI, the world is at your fingertips-from consumer electronics and optics, to power efficiency and storage, to telecommunications devices, broadcasting systems, analog circuitry and more.

The two sets of PEOs listed here are for our bachelor's degree programs.

The Program Educational Objectives of the Electrical Engineering degree program are to prepare graduates who will be successful in their chosen career paths by:

  1. becoming productive and valuable engineers in the private or public sector,
  2. pursuing and completing graduate studies, and/or
  3. taking on leadership roles in their professions, as well as in their communities and the global society.

The Program Educational Objectives of the Computer Engineering degree program are to prepare graduates who will be successful in their chosen career paths by:

  1. becoming productive and valuable engineers in the private or public sector,
  2. pursuing and completing graduate studies, and/or
  3. taking on leadership roles in their professions, as well as in their communities and the global society.

Student Outcomes (SOs)

These student outcomes address the abilities of our students upon graduation. Engineering programs will demonstrate that our students attain the following outcomes:

  1. an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering
  2. an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
  3. an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability
  4. an ability to function on multidisciplinary teams
  5. an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
  6. an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility
  7. an ability to communicate effectively
  8. the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context
